Conditions we
treat in San Diego
From acute sports injuries to chronic neck and back pain — Dr. Jordan Loewenstein identifies the mechanical cause and builds a plan around your life, your goals, and your timeline.
Common conditions
we treat
Most pain has a mechanical cause. We find it, treat it, and give you the tools to keep it from coming back.
Every body.
Every level.
From UCSD students and desk workers to competitive athletes and veterans — our patients range widely. The approach is always the same: find the cause, treat the structure, educate on prevention.
The root-cause
approach
We don't chase symptoms. Every treatment plan starts with understanding why your pain exists and what it will take to resolve it — not just manage it.

FAQs
What patients commonly ask before their first visit at our UTC San Diego office.
Chiropractors primarily treat musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions — those involving the spine, joints, muscles, and nerves. The most common include neck pain, low back pain, sciatica, headaches, and sports injuries. Beyond those core conditions, chiropractic care is effective for shoulder pain, hip dysfunction, SI joint pain, IT band syndrome, plantar fasciitis, and a range of other soft tissue and joint complaints throughout the body.
A good rule of thumb: if your pain is musculoskeletal — meaning it involves your spine, joints, or soft tissue — it's likely appropriate for chiropractic evaluation. If you have a diagnosed fracture, active infection, certain types of cancer, or a condition requiring immediate surgical intervention, chiropractic may not be appropriate. We perform a thorough intake exam on every new patient and will refer out if your condition is better served by another provider.
Yes — for many patients with a herniated disc, chiropractic is an effective first-line treatment. Research supports spinal manipulation and manual therapy for disc-related pain, and the majority of disc herniations resolve with conservative care. We use specific techniques appropriate for disc injuries — not high-velocity manipulation into a compromised segment — and combine adjustment with decompression, soft tissue therapy, and core rehab to take pressure off the disc and support healing.
It depends on your condition, how long it's been present, and how your body responds. Acute injuries caught early often resolve in 4–8 visits. Chronic conditions that have been present for months or years typically require a longer course of care — 12–20 visits. We establish clear goals at your first visit, track your progress, and give you an honest timeline. We don't push ongoing maintenance visits — when you've hit your goals, you're discharged with the tools to stay well.
Yes. Extremity conditions — shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, ankle — are a significant part of the practice, especially for our active and athletic patient base. ART Certified soft tissue work is particularly effective for tendinopathy, IT band syndrome, rotator cuff issues, and plantar fasciitis. Chiropractic extremity adjustments are also available for joint dysfunction in the shoulder, wrist, hip, and ankle.
Chiropractic care has a strong safety profile when performed by a licensed, trained doctor of chiropractic. Serious adverse events are rare. The most common side effect after an adjustment is mild soreness — similar to what you'd feel after a workout — which resolves within 24–48 hours. We perform a thorough examination before any treatment to screen for contraindications and ensure the techniques used are appropriate for your specific condition and history.
Most major insurance plans cover chiropractic care for medically necessary musculoskeletal conditions — which covers the vast majority of what we treat. We are in-network with Aetna, Blue Shield of California, Anthem Blue Cross, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, HealthNet, Medicare, and VA Community Care. We verify your benefits before your first visit so you know your copay in advance. Call (858) 558-3111 or visit our insurance page for more detail.
